LIFE DOESN’T OWE YOU ANYTHING

Life doesn’t owe you anything, sounds harsh right? I know, it’s harsh even when I say it to myself, life doesn’t owe me anything. Life doesn’t owe us anything, yet so many of us go through life thinking that, ‘Oh, well life should be this way or life should be that way’. And then when life doesn’t meet our own expectations, we are seriously let down. Well, the thing is we’ve really got to be aware that in this moment of you being let down by life, it’s not actually a life that has let you down, it’s your own expectations of life that have let you down, or in short, it’s your own expectations that have let you down. Everything in life is by chance, everything in life is unpredictable, there are no guarantees in life, so what does this mean?
This means we have to take life for what it is, and rather than saying, ‘oh, my life should be this way, or my life should be that way’, Or ‘why did this happen to me?’ Just breathe and say, ‘it is what it is’.

Maybe it’s that you were in a traumatic accident, an abusive relationship. Maybe you’ve had some challenges during COVID, but rather than say ‘why me, why me, why me’, think about it, why not you? Who’s to say that this should not be happening to you. Who’s to say that whatever has happened to me in my life isn’t the way it should always have been, it is what it is, a phrase that I’ve not only learned in my life, but I’ve made a very big part of my life.
It is what it is. This allows me to not make things worse, but by surrendering and accepting the fact that, Hey, it is what it is, this path that I’ve just walked on, regardless of what has happened, the good, the bad and the ugly. It just is what it is. And now that I surrender to the fact that it is what it is and I am where I am, I can start to make it better looking forward. But if I don’t take responsibility for my life and everything that’s happened in my life, that is just going to be more of the same.

One of the first things I always teach when it comes to self-mastery, mastering yourself, so you can master your life is to take full responsibility for where you are and where you are not. For what is, and what isn’t. Make this a mantra for your life. It is what it is.

And then go to work on yourself responsibly and make it better than it is.
